Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at about 5 km to the northeast of the Kongkashankou of the Hetian County, Xinjiang. It was named by the Compiling Group on the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 1981.

Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. Grey thin-bedded limestone, bio-limestone, brecciated limestone, medium- and thick-bedded clayey limestone, quartz-sandstone and silty shale. Thickness is over 228 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the underlying Jiawendaban Fm.

Upper contact

Unconformity to the Heweitan Fm (Heweitan Gr) of mid-Triassic.

Regional extent

Distributed in the Kongkashankou area seated on the border line between Xinjiang and Tibet, with a greatly changeable thickness, as being of over 228 m (no base has been found) in the vicinity of Qiangchenmo River; being of 568 m in the southeast of Jiawendaban area; being of 400 m in the northwest of Kongkashankou area; and being of 633 m in the Changlong River area.

Fossils

Fusulinida represented by Misellina, Pseudofusulina, Parafusulina, Chusenella, Yangchienia, Cancellina, Schwagerina, Pseudodoliolina, and Neoschwagerina, belonging respectively to the Misellina zone and the Neoschwagerina zone; Ammonoids such as Parapronorites; Corals such as Waagenophyllum, Kepingophyllum; and Brachiopods such as Schellwienella, Buxtonia, Echinoconchus, Brachythyris, etc.,
